The Oregon Department of Transportation's Eastern Oregon Region 5 is charged with the safe and effective construction, operation, and maintenance of U.S. and state highways. Region 5 serves the eastern Oregon counties of Morrow, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Baker, Grant, Harney and Malheur.
The following is a summary of projects in Eastern Oregon for 2023.
All work is dependent on weather conditions, and schedules are subject to change.
Current Projects
Our summer construction season has begun. Current projects underway include:
- I-84: Cabbage Hill Erosion Repairs.
- OR 82: Bear Creek (Wallowa River) Bridge Replacement.
- U.S. 395-C: Sidewalk improvements and ADA upgrades in John Day.
Curb Ramp Upgrade Projects
Projects involving ADA curb ramps continues to be a focus of our work this summer.
- Work in Wallowa, Lostine, Joseph and Pendleton is underway. These projects began in 2022 and are scheduled to be completed this summer.
- Construction has begun in Milton-Freewater. Work is expected to begin late May in Heppner.
- ADA projects are expected to begin later this summer in Grant County, Burns, Hines, Ontario, Jordan Valley, Adrian and Huntington.
Chip Seal Projects
Several chip seal projects are scheduled for the summer. Work on two highways is expected to begin mid-May, as listed here. For more information, visit Region 5 Chip Seal Projects.
- OR 11: Northeast Lindell Lane in Pendleton to junction of OR 331.
- OR 11: Junction of OR 204 to Southeast 13th Street Milton-Freewater.
- U.S. 730: I-84 to Southwest Fourth Street in Irrigon.
- U.S. 730: Fifteenth Road east of Irrigon to Umatilla River Bridge.
- U.S. 730: McNary to Oregon/Washington State Line.
