Construction continues on two phases of the U.S. 20 Safety Upgrade Project
We’re constructing two phases of safety improvements on U.S. 20 between Corvallis and Albany, both are estimated to complete this year.
Changes are coming to both work zones.
Phase 1: Prepare for a change in how you move through the area – we're shifting traffic to use the dedicated left turn lane as a travel lane. This work will take at least a month.
Phase 2: Pay attention – the speed is reduced to 40 m.p.h. in the work zone. Use caution – bikes are sharing the lane with cars.
Learn more about the changes below.

Check out the details for each phase and work zone
Phase 1
This week we're restriping the road between Garland Nursery and Bowers Slough in order to shift traffic off of the side of the road where we need to work.
We'll move traffic to the south side of the highway and start grinding and paving the north side of the highway in May.
While traffic is shifted, there won't be dedicated left turn lanes at Granger Avenue and Independence Highway. The work is weather dependent, but we expect this shift to last about a month. During that time, crews will work Sunday through Thursday nights, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Use caution through the area – the speed is reduced to 45 m.p.h. in the work zone.

Phase 2
This phase has just started. For the first couple months of construction, we’ll work on the west side of the highway, between NE Asbahr Avenue and Conifer Boulevard. After, we’ll start widening to the east side from Conifer Boulevard to Merloy Avenue.
|
Please use caution and slow down in the work zone. The speed limit has been reduced to 40 m.p.h. for not only the safety of the construction workers, but for all road users.
Bikes will share the lane with cars just south of NE Asbahr Avenue heading into Corvallis. Pedestrians will need to use the eastern shoulder.
During construction you can expect:
- Construction noise.
- Reduced speed in the work zone.
- Trucks entering and leaving the work zone.
- Daytime work. Most of the work can be done weekdays during the day. There will be times when night work is needed.
- For night work there will be allowable lane closures from Sunday through Thursday nights, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. to set up and remove concrete barriers for each stage of construction, digging for new storm pipes and when we’re paving.
