Scenic Avenue looking across OR 99 to the west intersection.
April 19, 2023
CENTRAL POINT – Scenic Avenue west of Oregon 99 will close to all traffic at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 21 for construction. The roadway will reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday, April 24. Central Point traffic west of Oregon 99 needs to use other routes during the weekend improvements.
Contractor Knife River Materials will rebuild and raise the surface of Scenic Avenue on both sides of the railroad tracks to match the newly paved elevation at Oregon 99. Central Oregon Pacific Railroad has a separate contractor who will install a new rail crossing and new crossing arm and signal work.
Night paving on Oregon 99 will begin before the weekend intersection closure. Traffic will be narrowed to a single lane in each direction Thursday night, April 20, 7 p.m. to Friday, 7 a.m. Traffic is urged to use caution during construction where the speed is reduced to 45 mph. Oregon 99 paving will continue through the weekend, simultaneous with the construction on Scenic Avenue. Oregon 99 will remain open during this work.
The project constructs new new traffic signals, crosswalks compliant with the Americans with Disability Act, and a better railroad crossing to match the roadway and intersection elevations at the high crash intersection.
Knife River Materials plans to have the roadway work done by June. However, the traffic signals may not be activated until after the railroad portion of the project is complete, perhaps a month or two later. Contract end date for the $7.7 million project is October 26.
