April 17, 2023

After pausing for winter weather, Tidewater Construction has returned to finish work on the sidewalk improvement project along U.S. 395-C (South Canyon Boulevard) in John Day.

The contractor will be onsite in April and May to finish remaining items. Work is expected to continue into June to complete punch list items and final clean-up. During these next couple of months, crews will be:

  • Finishing installation and connection of stormwater and drainage facilities.
  • Forming and pouring concrete for new sidewalks, driveway approaches and connections to existing sidewalks.
  • Installing signs.
  • Paving and installing highway striping.

This safety improvement project is funded in part by the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. This project improves conditions for children who walk or bike to school by providing new sidewalks built to current ADA standards, wider bicycle lanes, curbs and gutters for stormwater runoff and stormwater facilities.

Schedule

There will be no work the week of April 17. Crews will return the following week and are expected to work daytime, Monday through Friday.

Traffic impacts

Please use caution through the work zone. Watch for work crews and equipment on the west shoulder of South Canyon Boulevard between Southwest Sixth Avenue and the entrance of Grant Union High School. Travelers can expect short, intermittent closures for concrete trucks.

Businesses are open during construction. Watch for blue cones and business access signs. Be sure to slow down and watch for pedestrians and other vehicles before turning.
