Welcome to the construction training and certification newsletter. In this issue, we will provide you with important information, updates, and resources that will help you plan for needed training and certification. Please note our training season is winding down and the future 2023-2024 season to be announced in September.

Important Announcements

2023 Digital Courses now on Workday
(Note: you must have a Workday Learning account in order to access the below training.)

ADA Curb Ramp Inspector and Contractor certification includes an online exam and in-person field exam to receive a 2-year certification. Below is the order of progression and Workday enrollment links for certification:     

Step 1 – ADA Curb Ramp Inspector and Contractor Training
Step 2 – ADA Curb Ramp Inspector and Contractor Exam 
Step 3 – ADA Curb Ramp Certified Field Exam

Traffic Signal Inspector Certification is an online class with an electronic exam. Learners who complete both successfully receive a 3-year certification.      

Step 1 – Certified Traffic Signal Inspector Training (2023) online
Step 1 – Certified Traffic Signal Inspector Recertification Training (2023) online
Step 2 – Certified Traffic Signal Inspector Exam (2023) online

Culturally Modified Tree Training Video

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) are excited to share the final culturally modified tree (CMT) video, developed as mitigation for adverse effects to culturally modified trees impacted during hazardous tree and debris removal for the 2020 Wildfires. The video focuses on the cultural importance of CMTs, how to identify and document CMTs, and describes ways to respect and treat CMTs. VIEW, DOWNLOAD

Challenge Exams

Monthly inspector certification challenge events will be offered at the ODOT Salem Materials Lab located at 800 Airport Road SE. To register for a future challenge event, please complete the ODOT Inspector Challenge Exam Request Form. For electronic study materials, go to the Inspector Certification webpage and select the specific course for links to the class materials.

Plan Reading Series (1 hour) - New to Construction? Go through the first module prior to an inspector training course. You can familiarize yourself with the basics of plan reading.

Math Module - If it has been a while since your last math class, this is useful as background for all of the certification courses.

Workday Learning External Account

If you are an external learner to ODOT, you will need to set up a Workday Learning account here to access our courses (be sure to choose "State of Oregon" as your affiliation). After you establish your account and go to sign in, you will need to choose "Sign in using a Personal Device".

Construction Materials Technician Training

Construction material technician training will be administered through our Industry Partners: Asphalt Pavement Association of Oregon, American Concrete Institute of Oregon and Oregon Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association. For information, visit APAO, ACI and OCAPA websites for current enrollment details.
