CENTRAL POINT — Knife River Construction is starting two safety projects to kick off the new year at two high crash intersections at Oregon 140 at Lakeview Drive and OR 99 at Scenic Avenue.

In White City, Knife River is planning to start January 9 on a $1.7 million intersection improvement at Oregon 140 at Lakeview Drive.  This high crash location will see new turn lanes built for traffic turning off the highway onto Lakeview Drive.

During construction, the north turn onto Lakeview Drive into the White City neighborhoods will be closed for the first stage of construction. White City neighborhood traffic should seek alternate routes during construction. The southbound side of Lakeview Drive will remain open to traffic.

In Central Point, early construction began in mid-December on Oregon 99 at the Scenic Avenue safety project. The $3.5 million improvement includes new traffic signals and roadway markings; pedestrian curb ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements; and upgraded railroad crossing and signals.

There are several full night and weekend closures on both sides of Scenic Avenue to complete the project.

While the contract end date is October 2023, Knife River Construction officials say they will likely finish the project by this summer.

The railroad crossing and signal upgrades are under a separate contract overseen by Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad.

An open house on the Oregon 99 Scenic Avenue project is planned for Thursday, January 26 at the nearby Fire District #3 fire station, 1909 Scenic Ave., from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
