GRANTS PASS – Hillcrest Road under Interstate 5 will close to thru traffic for the next six months for major bridge foundation repair. The construction and closure is part of the Southern Oregon Seismic Resilience projects, funded by the state’s 2017 Keep Oregon Moving act.
A drop-in project open house will be held Thursday, October 20, 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Grace Bible Church, 1555 NE 10th Street. ODOT staff will be available to answer project-related questions. Residents east of I-5 can access their properties via Beacon Drive and a detour route using 9th Street and NE Savage Street.
Grants Pass and Josephine County staff will also be on hand since they have sidewalk and street improvement projects planned for the area.
A virtual open house of the Hillcrest Road work is also available for people to attend at the project website.
Contractor HP Civil, which has been doing the nearby work at Exit 58 will wrap up that work shortly and mobilize to the Hillcrest Road location.
The $5 million Hillcrest Bridge improvement is part of the Southern Oregon Seismic Resilience project. Funded by the 2017 Keep Oregon Moving Act, the goal is to keep southern Oregon connected after a major earthquake. Fifteen bridges and four historic slopes are part of this project, designed to give southwest Oregon a lifeline for needed goods and supplies after a major earthquake.
