Watch for traffic pattern changes, drive with extra caution
 OR 207 pavement restriping project
WHAT IS HAPPENING? Oregon Department of Transportation maintenance forces are changing the pavement striping along OR 207/ NW 11th Street in Hermiston. We will extend the existing dedicated center turn lane that ends near West Madrona Avenue so it continues to West Linda Avenue. To allow room for the turn lane, we will move the northbound and southbound lanes closer to the curb or road shoulder in the project area. This will eliminate curbside parking and improve safety for everyone who drives, walks and rolls. This restriping work will not affect existing curb or sidewalk.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? The city requested the change to improve safety along the route by continuing the center turn lane on 11th Street that begins at West Highland Avenue. The project will nearly double the length of dedicated turn lanes on this route. Turn lanes improve safety by creating a refuge for vehicles making turn movements. Turning movements are often contributing factors in crashes.
The elimination of curbside parking will also improve visibility issues that occur when semi-trucks park along the side of the road. Parked vehicles often block the view of motorists turning onto the roadway from side streets and driveways. In some cases, vehicle have to pull into the travel lane to see around parked vehicles, creating hazards for themselves and others on the road.
WHEN WILL THE WORK TAKE PLACE? The road restriping work began earlier this week and is now complete.
WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS TO YOU? Expect minor delays along 11th Street between West Madrona Avenue and West Linda Avenue while everyone gets used to the changes. Drive with extra caution and keep an eye out for pedestrians.
We greatly appreciate your support and cooperation during this safety improvement operation.
