Chip seal projects beginning. Expect delays.

Travelers should be aware of two pavement preservation chip seal projects beginning next week.

OR 211/226 between Albany and Lyons, milepost 0.5-9.5 is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 8 and continue through Aug. 18. Flaggers and pilot cars will direct single lane traffic through the work zone between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Expect up to 20 minute delays.

OR 200 Territorial Highway south of Monroe between milepost 0-2 is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Aug. 11 and continue until Aug. 19. Flaggers and pilot cars will direct single lane traffic through the work zone between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Expect up to 20 minute delays. This project was delayed from mid-July due to weather.

A layer of asphalt with embedded sand and gravel, known as chip sealing, will be applied to the top of existing pavement. Plan extra travel time and slow down. Crews will sweep the road, but expect some loose rock for several days. Take a look at a recent chip seal in Silverton.

Chip seals are a lower cost way to extend the life of a road and are part of our maintenance of Oregon’s transportation system.

Bicyclists should be prepared for traveling on rock chip covered sections behind a pilot car with no usable shoulders.

Pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be provided routes through or around the work zone.
