CENTRAL POINT – Oregon 140/Blackwell Road will close to thru traffic for three full weekends in July and August from Dean Creek Road near Interstate 5, Exit 35 east to the Blackwell Road intersection to Gold Hill.
The first roadway closure will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 29, and continue until 6 a.m. on Monday, August 1. The highway will be closed the same hours on the weekends of August 12-15 and August 19-22.
The closures are required to install new culverts and adjust the road grade at Willow Creek. These closures will affect all traffic. Homeowners and businesses north of Willow Creek will access their properties from the north. South of Willow Creek, access will be available via OR 99 and Interstate 5, Exit 35.
The signed detour route for traffic coming from the east will include Oregon 62 to the Rogue Valley Expressway to Medford Exit 30. Some traffic from the west may elect to use either Blackwell Road from Gold Hill, Exit 43 or Table Rock/Antelope Roads, depending on destination.
This $10 million project, scheduled for completion this fall, improves the existing roadway alignment with two travel lanes and a center turn lane. Shoulders will be eight feet wide and a new 10 foot multi-use path from Dean Creek Road to the bike tunnel will traverse the east side of the road.
This project will also affect the informal Park and Ride, just off the Exit 35 interchange near Ground Control. It will permanently close August 1, with a new location opening at the same time west of the interstate, just off the Oregon 99 and Willow Springs Road.
