ESTACADA -- Closures of up to 20 minutes began Wednesday on OR 224 east of Estacada for paving as part of the recovery from the Labor Day 2020 wildfires.
The paving will take place not on one continuous stretch of road but at various locations between mileposts 32 and 48.7. The paving, which will be followed by striping and rumble strips, will continue until the middle of next week.
U.S. Forest Service Hole in the Wall and Moore Creek Boat Access Day Sites are open but all other Forest Service sites in the corridor are closed through the end of 2022. USFS roads 46 and 57 remain closed.
The wildfires closed 18 miles of OR 224 until last May 1, when the road re-opened. Recovery work, however, continues and visitors through the summer should expect to see debris trucks and occasional road closures for rock scaling, rock mesh installation and sign installation.
