Travelers should plan for continued construction while we improve the highway this summer
Construction continues for multiple projects in the Columbia River Gorge between Multnomah Falls and Hood River to improve Interstate 84 and extend the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.
Each project brings benefits to residents, businesses and visitors by increasing safety, extending the lifespan of the highways or completing a gap in pedestrian and biking infrastructure.
Travelers should pack their patience and plan ahead. This summer, you can plan for the majority of traffic impacts to occur during the week, minimizing weekend impacts when traffic volumes are higher. Construction schedules are often weather dependent and subject to change. Check TripCheck.com for real-time information.

Mitchell Point Tunnel
Crews are lining the Mitchell Point Tunnel with structural shotcrete, which is concrete containing steel fibers and sprayed into place. Next, crews will add another coat of shotcrete tinted to mimic the color of the natural rock.
