Competitive funding opportunity to replace and/or retrofit diesel transit vehicles
Dear Oregon transit agencies,
Our partners at the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality are providing approximately $8 million in 2022 grant funding for diesel vehicle and equipment owners (including transit agencies) to replace older and more polluting diesel engines with new, cleaner technologies and exhaust control retrofits. The program is designed to help address health and environmental impacts from diesel emissions in Oregon.
Businesses, governments and tribes from across the state who own diesel equipment are invited to apply for funding for projects that reduce diesel emissions in Oregon. Visit the DEQ Diesel Emissions Mitigation Grants program web page to:
Owners of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles requiring retrofits under the new Diesel Retrofit Compliance Program may also apply for funding to support the installation of diesel particulate filters. Applicants may also seek to repower existing diesel vehicles by replacing a diesel engine with a newer, cleaner engine or power source.
Interested transit agencies should apply directly to DEQ. Submissions must be received by DEQ no later than 5 p.m. on June 7.
DEQ expects to provide future opportunities for this funding, so if you are not able to apply now, please watch for a 2023 grant opportunity. For more information, please contact Gerik Kransky, project manager, dieselgrants@deq.oregon.gov.
Note: DEQ offers other opportunities to help reduce the cost of transitioning to alternative fuels. The Advanced Crediting program can help transit agencies accelerate their adoption of electric buses by advancing Clean Fuels Program credits to agencies that have put electric vehicles into operation.
Thank you for your support of public transportation in Oregon.
