Crews are making progress toward re-opening OR 224 east of Estacada (mileposts 31.-50). ODOT and the U.S. Forest Service are still developing a timeline for when the road can safely open to everyone but we expect that there will be a Clackamas River recreation season in 2022.
We don’t have a set date yet because of variables like rock scaling work to be done, the availability of contractors and construction materials, and the impact of Covid on workers.
What’s happening now
- Installing more than 42,000 feet of new guardrail in 11 areas, replacing guardrail that was damaged, destroyed, or now needed in areas stripped of roadside trees.
- Paving where the road was damaged.
- Installing mesh fencing on slopes in numerous areas.
- Rock scaling to remove loose boulders, rocks and dirt from slopes over the road. In those areas, guardrail installation has to wait until the work is done.
- Hazard tree removal continues to reduce the threat to the road.
- Arborists continue to inspect sites to make sure trees are not presenting threats.
