Eugene DMV office reopening set for Jan. 3 is delayed

Dec. 30, 2021

The Jan. 3 reopening of the Eugene DMV office, which is closed this week for its move into the Valley River Center, is being delayed.

Installation of DMV equipment will not be completed by 8 a.m. Monday for the planned reopening in the mall. It will reopen as soon as it is ready.

DMV will attempt to call customers who have appointments to reschedule them.

Eugene-area residents who need to visit a DMV in person may consider visiting the Springfield DMV office at 204 N. 30th St. DMV has moved staff there to maximize that office’s capacity during the Eugene office closure.

The Eugene DMV is moving because the community has outgrown the space where the office has been located since 1985. The office is moving to a temporary space near the food court at Valley River Center until a permanent office in a building outside the mall is ready later in 2022.

All state offices are closed Dec. 31 for the holiday because New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday this year.

Now you can! At DMV2U

Before you visit any DMV office, see if you can get the DMV service you need at DMV2U.Oregon.gov.

DMV has added over 20 new services to DMV2U including driver license renewal, vehicle registration renewal, change of address, and more. Also, you can make an appointment for services that must be done in person – such as applying for a new license or the Real ID option for air travel.

Get ready for air travel now

If you travel by air or might in the future, make sure you have identification acceptable at airport security checkpoints. Starting in May 2023, you will need a Real ID-compliant form of ID for all flights such as a Real ID-compliant state driver license, passport, passport card or U.S. military ID.

Don’t wait until the rush for Real ID licenses and passports! If you want the Real ID option on your Oregon driver license or ID card, you must apply in person – walk in or by appointment.

To make sure you have all you need for Real ID, create your own checklist of documents you’ll need to bring to DMV with our online tool at Oregon.gov/RealID.
