Interstate 5 tree fall near miss: hear from ODOT staffer driving the vehicle
December 29, 2021
GRANTS PASS - Reporters are invited to a media availability today, Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. on Zoom featuring Beau Appling, the ODOT employee who had a near miss with a falling tree while driving a state vehicle on Interstate 5 near Wolf Creek on Monday.
Appling and drivers around him were unhurt.
Appling’s experience is an example of other potential hazards besides rain, snow and ice during winter driving in Oregon. Appling can also speak to the aftermath of the tree’s fall, which threatened to block traffic for several hours, were it not for the quick thinking of Oregon State Police, and the generosity of a local logging crew.
