The following construction report is for February 24-March 2, 2012 and includes ODOT highways in Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Curry and Douglas counties. Projects are listed in the following order: HIGHWAY, LOCATION, project name. Highway names, locations and project costs are added in parenthesis as appropriate.
JACKSON COUNTY
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway) Exit 14 Greensprings Interchange ($8 million) and Exit 19 ($5.7 million)
I-5 Exit 19 –South Valley View Drive
Watch for occasional flagging and shoulder closures for landscaping, lighting and other finish work.
- The project has built a new bridge over I-5 just north of existing structure. New bridge includes three lanes and 10’ multi purpose shoulders.
I-5 Exit 14- Greensprings Hwy.
ODOT is awaiting submittal from contractor on approved contract change order for center deck replacement. Off roadway work continues intermittently, particularly landscaping and fencing. Watch for flaggers, traffic control changes and equipment entering and exiting work zone on Ashland Street.
- Construction will widen the bridge over I-5 to three lanes and add sidewalks, bike lanes and signals at ramp terminals.
JOSEPHINE COUNTY
US 199- (Redwood Highway) @ River Street Signal, Cave Junction MP 28.5-28.7 ($551,000)
Watch for intermittent lane closures today as second shaft for new mid-block crosswalk signal is poured today. There will then be a week long cure time.
River Street signals are operating. Watch for change in traffic control and new median.
This project will install new traffic signal and crosswalks to improve safety and operations. Constructs left turn refuges with low median from Palmer St. on the south to some 300 feet north of River St. In addition, a mid-block crosswalk will be constructed farther south in the commercial area with pedestrian-activated beacons.
US 199- (Redwood Highway) Rogue Community College to Dowell Safety Project, MP 1.89-3.25 ($7.5 million)
Project is awaiting arrival of signal mast arms which were removed for hot-dip galvanizing.
Turn movements from Hubbard Lane are right turns only until signals are reinstalled.
This project builds a low level raised median between RCC and Dowell Rd. Constructs a multi-use path on the north side of the highway and installs a signal at Hubbard Lane.
COOS COUNTY
US 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 233.4 to 234.5, McCullough Bridge (North Bend) Rehab ($31 million)
Expect intermittent weeknight lane closures across the bridge.
The speed limit on the bridge is reduced to 35 mph. Drive with caution in the work area.
The sidewalk on the west (southbound) side of the bridge is closed.
US 101 (Oregon Coast Highway), MP 247 to 252, Tree Removal
Expect weekday lane closures. Drive with caution in the work area. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.
OR 42 (Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway), MP 45, Slide and Road repair
The highway will be reduced to a single lane at mile point 45 for debris in road and construction equipment.
CURRY COUNTY
No traffic impacts are expected this week.
DOUGLAS COUNTY
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 136-155, Elkhead Road to Sutherlin Paving and Climbing Lanes ($13.8 million)
- I-5, MP 136-154 (SB and NB): Watch for intermittent I-5 lane and shoulder closures.
- I-5, MP 147-148 (SB), Rice Hill climbing lane construction: The southbound shoulder is closed south of the Rice Hill interchange. Watch for concrete barrier on the side of the road.
- I-5, MP 136-138 (SB and NB), Sutherlin Hill climbing lanes construction: No impact to traffic.
This project re-paves 18 miles of I-5 and builds three truck climbing lanes (Rice Hill southbound and Sutherlin Hill northbound and southbound). Most paving work has been completed, though some striping and guardrail work remains.
INTERSTATE 5 (Pacific Highway), MP 129, Del Rio Road/Winchester Interchange bridge replacement and realignment ($22 million)
This project will replace Del Rio Road overcrossing at the I-5 Winchester Interchange (exit 129) on a new alignment approximately 1,300 feet north of its current location, relocate and lengthen all four interchange ramps, realign Highway 99 and the Umpqua College Road intersection. Construction is scheduled for completion in September.

OR 138W (Elkton-Sutherlin Highway), MP 20-23, Calapooya Creek and Dodge Creek Bridge replacements ($4.6 million)
Project replaces three bridges between mile point 20 and 23. Motorists are advised to watch for temporary signs, roadside work crews, equipment and construction vehicles exiting and entering the travel lanes. Watch for flaggers.
OR 138E (North Umpqua Highway), MP 52-68, North Umpqua Highway realignment project
Construction is on winter hiatus. No traffic impacts are expected until spring.
