Stop-and-go highway traffic coming to Coos Bay next week

COOS BAY – Coos Bay motorists may see a few more red lights on U.S. Highway 101 the next two weeks because of traffic signal upgrades.
Starting Monday night, July 12, ODOT crews will replace the electrical cabinets for each highway traffic signal between Johnson Avenue and Market Street.
Although traffic signals are usually programmed so motorists can travel long distances without stopping, the upgrades will put the signals temporarily out of sync. Highway 101 motorists traveling north or south may be stopped several times by red lights in this nine-block area.
Additionally, the upgrades may require some signals to be shut off between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.
Motorists should expect delays or use alternate routes until July 23, when the cabinet upgrades are scheduled to be completed.
