Maintenance work will mean closure of the SB span Saturday night July 31 and the NB span Saturday night Aug. 14

PORTLAND -- Maintenance work will shut down both spans of the Interstate Bridge on separate Saturday nights in the coming weeks.
On both nights the work will include adjusting the counter-weights, patching the road deck and making improvements to the lighting and the electrical system.
Here is the schedule:
- 11 p.m. Saturday July 31 to 7 a.m. Sunday Aug. 1 all lanes of the southbound span will close. Traffic bound for Oregon should take SR 14 east to Interstate 205 southbound into Oregon. The sidewalk on the southbound span will close but the sidewalk on the northbound span will remain open. During the closure, all southbound traffic must exit I-5 at SR 14, Exit 1A.
- 11 p.m. Saturday Aug. 14 to 7 a.m. Sunday Aug. 15, all lanes of the northbound span will close. Traffic bound for Washington should take Interstate 84 east to I-205 northbound across the Columbia River. The sidewalk on the northbound span will close but the sidewalk on the southbound span will remain open. During the closure, all northbound traffic must leave I-5 at Hayden Island, Exit 308.

The Interstate Bridge is jointly owned by Oregon and Washington and is maintained by ODOT. The northbound span opened in 1917 and the southbound span in 1958.
