Toll Equity and Mobility Advisory Committee meets June 23 to talk neighborhood health

The Equity and Mobility Advisory Committee for the I-205 Toll Project and the Regional Mobility Pricing Project will meet Wednesday, June 23, 3:30 to 5 p.m.
At this meeting, the committee will:
- Review research from other toll programs around the country related to neighborhood health and safety to inform the policy and strategy recommendations to the OTC.
- Review the EMAC NEPA Scuba team’s input on performance measures and discuss key questions related to the study of potential impacts related to neighborhood health and safety.
- Take the next step in developing EMAC policy and strategy recommendations to the OTC on tangible, equitable investments in neighborhood health and safety.
Committee members are a key link between the project and communities around the Portland metro area, including Southwest Washington. They help solicit feedback and participation from youth, older adults, Black, Indigenous, people of color, and multi-racial people, people who may speak a language other than English, and people living with a disability.

If you are planning to attend the workshop, please come prepared to discuss the following questions:
- What is your reaction to the key takeaways and research document?
- Based on your understanding of your community and the research, are these the policy or strategy options that should be advanced by EMAC for further consideration? How can they be strengthened? What's missing?
- Building upon the feedback from the NEPA Scuba team on the social resource maps, what is ODOT missing? Beyond putting these social resources on a map, how can we deepen our understanding of community and the impact of tolling?
We also welcome written or verbal comments outside of meetings and will provide the comments to the committee. Please submit comments by email to oregontolling@odot.state.or.us with “Committee Public Comment” in the subject line; or, call 503-837-3536 and state “Committee Public Comment” in your message.
If we receive your comment by 11:00 a.m. two business days before a meeting, we will send them to the committee in advance. All comments received after 11:00 a.m. two business days before the meeting will be provided to the committee at the next meeting. We will ensure that all written and verbal comments we receive prior to or at the meeting are included in the meeting summary.
About the committee: The Equity and Mobility Advisory Committee works to prioritize equity and mobility in designing the I-205 Toll Project and the Regional Mobility Pricing Project. This committee is a group of individuals with professional or lived experience in equity and mobility coming together to advise the Oregon Transportation Commission and ODOT on how tolls on I-205 and I-5 freeways, in combination with other traffic demand management strategies, can include benefits for populations that have historically and currently been underrepresented or underserved by transportation projects.
