I-5 will close in both directions for about a half hour  Sunday night to help PGE restore service

The closure will begin at 9 pm in both directions near the Enchanted Forest

Feb. 20, 2021

SALEM – Interstate 5 will close for about 30 minutes in both directions Sunday night near the Enchanted Forest while PGE crews string a new distribution line across the freeway.

The work will help PGE restore service in areas that lost power in the recent severe weather.

The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21 and traffic will be held up on the freeway near milepost 246. For services and alternative routes, southbound traffic can choose to leave the freeway at Exit252, Kuebler Boulevard, and northbound traffic at Exit 233 in Albany.

PGE and ODOT chose the timing of the closure because traffic in this location at this time of the week is minimal.

Travelers should also know that Sunnyside Road SE and Enchanted Way, which parallel the freeway, will be closed both before and after the I-5 closure for staging of PGE equipment needed for the work.

ODOT has been working with PGE since the recent storm to help the utility restore power to homes and businesses. The Sunday night closure will be the fourth closure in seven days of a major highway to help PGE accelerate recovery.
