Traffic Impacts

Work on N Lombard St continues, as crews build safety improvements for travelers on North Lombard Street. Travel impacts include single lane closures and intermittent pedestrian work zones, continuing through summer 2022.

Beginning next week, crews will build accessible curb ramps on the north side of N Lombard St, between N Boston and N Burrage Avenues. Work on signal improvements will continue throughout the corridor.

The graphic above shows the stages of construction from 2021 through 2022 as they are currently scheduled. The schedule could shift based on contractor scheduling.

Traveling During Construction Allow extra time when traveling and follow all signs and flaggers for safety. People driving and moving freight: Traffic will still flow in both directions during construction. There may be delays as crews reduce and shift travel lanes to improve the roadway. People biking: Bicyclists may continue to share the lane with vehicles, walk bikes along sidewalks, or use a neighborhood greenway, such as N Bryant Street. New bike lanes will open at project completion. People walking and rolling: There may be short detours near corners as accessible ramps are installed.

About the Project

This project will improve safety and travel-time predictability for people walking, biking, rolling, taking transit, driving and moving freight along North Lombard Street between North Fiske Avenue and North Boston Avenue. This will be accomplished by reducing travel lanes to one lane in each direction and adding a center turn lane, buffered bike lanes, pedestrian-activated crossings, updated traffic signals, curb ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, and wider vehicle lanes for this designated freight route. North Lombard will also be repaved in summer 2022.
