ODOT Area 4 Construction Update

The Oregon Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe and efficient transportation system. The following roadway improvement projects are located in ODOT Region 2, Area/District 4: Linn, Benton, Lincoln and Polk counties.

U.S. 101: Devil’s Lake Outlet, Schooner Creek and Siltcoos River Bridges

Project Description: This project will repair and install corrosion protection on the three bridges.

Traffic Impacts: Closures and work are weather dependent.

Devil’s Lake Outlet: The western bridge rail and sidewalk is being replaced and the sidewalk is closed during construction.

Schooner Creek Bridge: The western bridge rail and portions of the sidewalk are being removed, and new sidewalk and rail will be installed in several phases. Occasional night lane closures occur when concrete pours are needed. The western sidewalk is closed while the bridge rail is replaced. Expect minor delays.

Siltcoos River Bridge: Concrete repair and reinforcement work is underway under the bridge.  A temporary traffic signal will be turned on in late January or early February so that the contractor can repair the bridge deck surface and replace the bridge rails.

Yaquina Bay Bridge (Newport)

Project Description: This four-year project is replacing the existing corrosion protection system on the bridge and making seismic upgrades.

Traffic Impacts: Most work will take place under the bridge with little impact to traffic. Occasional night lane closures are needed to set up scaffolding and move equipment into place. The eastern sidewalk will close soon for the duration of the project. A pedestrian detour will be installed in mid-January, including a temporary flashing beacon crossing, at the south end of the bridge.

Construction equipment is being placed near the end of the public pier, where it will be for the duration of the project. It will only be used during the day, but will be noisy.

Project Description: A right turn lane, bus pull-out, sidewalk and multi-use path are being built as part of a new apartment complex.

Traffic Impacts: Work is substantially complete. Limited correction work remains. Work during the day, Monday through Thursday, is not expected to cause travel delays. Watch for flaggers controlling traffic.

Additional lane closures may occur between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Project Description: The project is repairing damaged concrete, removing outdated expansion joints, and grinding the concrete surface to eliminate ruts. Most work is complete.  Remaining work includes reinstalling rumble strips and permanent striping.  The project is scheduled to be completed by June 30, 2021.

Traffic Impacts: The project is on hold until the late spring when the weather improves. When construction commences there will be minor delays with nighttime lane closures in both the southbound and northbound directions between milepost 235 and milepost 216. Work is weather dependent.

Lane closures will typically run Sunday through Thursday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
