OR 126 Willamette River Bridge Construction

Work starts next week...

Expect lane closures Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Alternate routes available to avoid construction zone.

Starting next week, motorists using the westbound OR 126 bridge between Eugene and Springfield will need to be prepared for changes to their driving pattern over the bridge. 

The historic westbound bridge over the Willamette River is in need of maintenance. Repairs made now will help to preserve and extend the service life of the bridge, avoiding the need for more critical and costly repairs in the future.

We have contracted with HP Civil of Stayton, Oregon and F.D. Thomas of Central Point, Oregon for completing the nearly $4 million worth of repairs and maintenance, which will:

• Strengthen the bridge where necessary.
• Build a work containment structure to capture any debris from construction activities.
• Prepare the steel for painting and apply a new paint system.
• Replace deck joints.
• Install new conduit and wiring.

To accomplish the job, the work will be done in stages so that a single travel lane and pedestrian walkway can be maintained during construction. Orange cones and other traffic control devices will direct motorists into the proper lane. The traffic control system will be in place from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no night work scheduled, from January 11 to March 1. Starting in March, single lane closures will be in place 24/7. The bridge will remain open with alternate routes if motorists wish to avoid the construction area.

Construction is due to be finished in 2022.
