Second open house set for I-5 Exit 30 interchange area plan
 December 1, 2020
MEDFORD --The public can view the latest conceptual plans and ask questions about how the I-5 Exit 30 North Medford interchange should grow and develop between now and 2040.
From Dec. 2 -16, an online open house will be available for review. The purpose of the I-5 Exit 30 Interchange Area Management Plan or IAMP is to evaluate how, over the next 20 years, the existing interchange area operates with and without planned improvements. As part of the final environmental impact statement for the earlier Rogue Valley Expressway project, a proposed split diamond interchange is being reviewed as a possible improvement project.
According to ODOT Senior Planner Virginia Elandt, this second open house will be an opportunity to share what the team has been working on since the first open house last spring.
There is no funding for either design or construction during this evaluation phase. As the area continues to grow and become more congested, the plan will help identify and manage the safe and efficient operations of the study area. The area includes Oregon 62, the so-called Big X intersection of Oregon 62, 99 and 238 as well as the highway east to Delta Waters Road.
Plans that will help guide the IAMP include the Oregon 62: I-5 Dutton Road Final Environmental Impact Statement. That plan included modifying the existing Exit 30 interchange so that the Rogue Valley Expressway would connect directly to I-5.
Interchange management plans are long term facility plans required by the Oregon Transportation Commission to protect the public investments at interchanges and the nearby local street network.
A third and final online open house is planned for the spring of 2021.
