Application analysis for Competitive Construction Grant Program; next Advisory Committee meeting set for Oct. 20

Application analysis Safe Routes

Oct. 12, 2020

Dear Safe Routes to School enthusiasts,

We are excited to share the list of 99 applicants for ODOT’s Safe Routes to School Competitive Construction Grant Program. You can see a full analysis of the applications in slides 13-18 of this presentation from the Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee meeting on September 8.

The Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee (SRAC) will meet again October 20, noon - 3 p.m. (agenda, RSVP) to make recommendations for projects to fund. The recommendations will be based on priorities detailed in this recording of their previous meeting.

The Oregon Transportation Commission will determine the final project list on December 1. Appeals to the final decision may be made to the administrator of the Public Transportation Division. We anticipate hosting a webinar and posting a report describing how the final project list was determined in January 2021.

Next meeting, Oct. 20

Upcoming meeting materials will be posted on the website prior to the meeting (agenda). All SRAC meetings are open to the public with time set aside for public comment (RSVP). If you need accommodations, such as materials in alternate formats, call LeeAnne at 503-910-8994 or statewide relay, 711.

Other updates

  • We received 15 applications for the Safe Routes to School Project Identification Program and we anticipate being able to work with all who applied to create local Safe Routes to School plans.
  • The update to the Safe Routes to School Rule (OAR 737-025) was approved by the Oregon Transportation Commission in September. This update will create efficiencies in the Safe Routes to School Rapid Response Grant Program and make it easier for communities to meet the match requirement in SRTS Construction grants.
  • The SRAC and the OTC also approved two additional projects as part of the Rapid Response Grant Program: the city of Gresham for $76,061.42 and ODOT's Highway Region 5-Hermiston for $282,575.70 for urgent safety needs to address barriers to students walking and biking to school in those communities.

Thank you for your support of the Safe Routes to School program!

Sincerely,

LeeAnne and Heidi
