Recovering from wildfire is a journey

removing burnt trees from the highway

The Oregon wildfires affect so much of our lives including our transportation system. Most people know that roads close due to flames and smoke when fires are in the immediate area, but many people may not know that debris such as downed trees can cause closures. Fire can damage the road surface, signs, guardrails, etc. too. There are four phases of re-opening highways - evaluation, critical services, partial opening and full restoration.

In our latest posts to Transportation Insights, our featured news site, we share stories of how we’re working to recover from the wildfires. We also share stories of our employees who despite suffering losses at home are still working to make things better for all of us.

Get to know the “zippersaurus”

Travelers on the Interstate Bridge on I-5 between Oregon and Washington shared the bridge with the “zippersaurs,” or zipper truck, during recent lane closures for repair work. The 100+ year old bridge is getting some important work done on the parts that make the bridge lift up and down for marine traffic.
