Construction for the Mitchell Point Tunnel begins in 2021

We invite you to participate in our online open house and learn more about the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.

An effort is underway to restore all 73 miles of the Historic Columbia River Highway from Troutdale to The Dalles.

Currently, 68 of those 73 miles are connected. Some segments will be accessible to cars and cyclists. Some segments, known as the Historic Highway State Trail, will be accessible only by people walking, rolling or biking.

The online open house shares information about each of the three segments of the Historic Highway State Trail -- including the Mitchell Point Tunnel -- that make up the remaining five miles.

At the west entrance to the tunnel, there will be an overlook area. Each tunnel entrance, or portal, will have stone features.

At the west entrance to the future Mitchell Point Tunnel, there will be an overlook area. Each tunnel entrance, or portal, will have stone features as shown in the rendering above.
