I-84 Bridge Raising at Forest Lane in Cascade Locks

In Cascade Locks, ODOT is designing a project to raise the Forest Lane bridge over Interstate 84 to accommodate tall or over-height trucks.

The bridge is the last low-height structure between Troutdale and Hood River on this critical freight route. Raising the existing 16.7-foot structure to 17.4 feet will allow tall trucks to use I-84 instead of using alternate routes.

The project occurs in Cascade Locks where Forest Lane crosses over I-84.

Schedule

• Design continues through 2021.
• Construction is planned to occur in early 2022 and will take several months to complete.

Schedule is subject to change.

Construction impacts

For I-84 Travelers

During construction, I-84 under the bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction around-the-clock to provide space for work to occur. The shoulder will be narrowed during construction. People cycling can use the narrowed shoulder or detour through Cascade Locks.

For Forest Lane Travelers

During construction, Forest Lane will be closed around-the-clock at the bridge to all users. Local access for businesses on the northwest side of the bridge will be open. People driving, walking or biking can follow a signed detour on Wa Na Pa and Frontage Road.

More information on construction impacts will be shared in advance of work beginning.
