2020 Transit Network Report Released

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) partnered with Kittelson & Associates to produce a report that explores Oregon’s fixed route transit network.  The report is intended to help ODOT and our transit partners understand the current network, changes in the network over time, and opportunities for improvement of the network.

The 2020 Transit Network Report (TNR) compares fixed route transit services in 2018 and 2019, allowing ODOT and transit providers to better see the gaps, strengths, and weaknesses of the statewide transit network. The report relies heavily on GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) and census data and uses ODOT’s TNExT software to interpret statewide GTFS data.

The report provides details and aggregated summaries of data on route miles, service miles, service hours, connections among service providers, population served at various levels of service, fleet condition, key transit hubs, and more.

ODOT will regularly update this information and make improvements in data standards and data availability.  These findings will be used to address stakeholders’ needs and address new goals and policies in local, state, and federal funding opportunities.

Subsequent reports will allow comparisons to the 2019 baseline picture of the statewide network before deployment of Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF) funding.  These will also potentially provide comparisons to snapshots of the network status at the height of COVID-19.
