The Oregon Department of Transportation’s Willamette Valley bus service will soon provide another transit option for getting to and from Tualatin and the south Portland metro area. ODOT’s POINT bus, with daily service between Portland and Eugene, is adding a stop at TriMet’s Tualatin Park & Ride beginning June 1.
“We want to extend our daily Willamette Valley service to new riders and provide more options for anyone who travels in this busy corridor,” said Joel Manning, POINT project manager. “This addition is particularly important to those in need of immediate essential travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Based on social distancing recommendations and the high number of people teleworking, most carpools and vanpools are not operating. Some people do not have options for essential travel because of this reduction in transit services. Manning said the new stop in Tualatin will help Oregonians and visitors both in the short- and long-term.
The Tualatin stop is first new stop on the Portland-Eugene route in over six years.
“Our new stop would not be possible without TriMet’s partnership. ODOT thanks them for sharing their facility and their continued partnership in serving the region,” Manning said.
The new stop will enhance the POINT’s connections to and from Amtrak Cascades train service at Union Station.
The POINT’s Cascades Route is on a reduced schedule in response to the pandemic. Currently, the Cascades Route offers three roundtrip options each day between downtown Portland’s Union Station and the University of Oregon campus in Eugene. Stops along the way will now include the Tualatin Park & Ride, Woodburn Park & Ride, Salem Amtrak Station, Albany Amtrak Station, and Eugene Amtrak Station.
