Two sidewalk projects, one in Pendleton and the other in Milton-Freewater are under construction. Both contracts will focus on upgrading the Americans with Disabilities Act ramps that connect the sidewalk with the level of the street. Existing sidewalk ramps do not meet current ADA standards and need to be change to improve safety. If you’ll be near these project areas, please plan extra travel time. All pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or detours around the work area and closed sidewalk sections. Construction impacts for motorists should be minimal, but drive with extra caution and watch for crews and equipment.
In Pendleton, Brown Contracting, Inc. crews will begin work on Monday to upgrade the ADA ramps where SE Court Avenue (U.S. 30) connects with SE 9th Street and SE 9th Drive, and were OR 11 connects with SE 9th Street and SE 10th Street. The intersection at SE Court Avenue (U.S. 30) and SE Frasier Place will also receive the safety upgrades. This project is expected to be completed by mid-June.
In Milton-Freewater, Nelson Construction Corp. crews begin work April 6 to upgrade the ADA ramps at all four corners of the S Main Street (OR11) and 10th Street intersection, west of the Gib Olinger Elementary School. The contractor plans to be completed by the end of May.
The estimated completion dates depend on weather conditions over the next few months. Pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or around the work areas.
All workers are expected to be adhere to social distancing when possible and other safety practices that help reduce the risks of exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Please keep safety in mind at all times and give crews extra space to do their jobs.
