Bridge is scheduled to be replaced in 2022
AMITY—The Oregon Department of Transportation is placing weight restrictions on the Salt Creek Bridge just west of Amity on OR 153 (Bellevue-Hopewell Highway) effective Friday, March 27. The most recent bridge inspection found that the critical parts have deteriorated to the point where it requires limiting vehicle weight (loads) to no more than 9 tons.
The weight restrictions apply to large vehicles such as medium and large trucks, school buses and large farm equipment. To access areas on OR 153 west of the bridge, the state-approved detour route for restricted loads is to use OR 99W and OR 18. The detour will add an estimated15-20 minutes of drive time. Some local Yamhill County roads could be used as a detour but are not recommended for large trucks.
The Salt Creek Bridge is almost 70 years old and is scheduled to be replaced with a brand new structure starting in the spring of 2022. The current bridge is made of timber, and is 380 feet long and 25 feet wide. Most bridges are built to last at least 50 years. Previous repairs were able to add longevity but the most recent inspection revealed that it is in such poor condition today that further extensive repairs are not an option.
Travelers can expect to see signs at various locations warning them of the weight restrictions and the state-approved detour route.
