OR 99W in South Corvallis

CORVALLIS – New speed limits begin Tuesday, Feb.18 on OR 99W/Third Street in South Corvallis to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists who use the road together. Signs reflecting the new speed limits will be installed throughout the day on Tuesday.

On OR 99W/Third Street (the two-way section), the speed limits will now be, from north to south:

25 mph (no change)
From : South end of one-way couplet (milepost 84.31)  at Mary’s River
To : 100 feet south of Avery Ave. (milepost 84.51)

25 mph (change from 35 mph)
From : 100 feet south of Avery Ave. (milepost 84.51)
To : 150 feet south of Hopkins Ave (milepost 84.61)   near Willamette Veterinary Hospital

30 mph (change from 35 mph)
From : 150 feet south of Hopkins Ave (milepost 84.61)  near Southside Marine
To : 400 feet north of SE Park Ave (milepost 85.34)

The existing 20 mph School Zone speed limit near Lincoln Elementary School will continue to be in effect during the times noted on signs.

35 mph (no change)
From : 400 feet north of SE Park Ave (milepost 85.34)
To : 0.22 mile north of SE Rivergreen Ave (milepost 85.72)

The Corvallis Police Department will have an increased presence in the area to help drivers adjust to the new speed limits.

Upgraded flashing beacons were recently installed at four marked mid-block crossings on OR 99W in South Corvallis. These beacons, new crosswalk signs, and the lower speed limits are intended to create safer crossing locations for pedestrians and raise driver awareness of the crossings. This is joint project of the City of Corvallis and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The facility plan for OR 99W in South Corvallis gets underway later this year and will be an opportunity to continue the conversation about the pedestrian and bicyclist experience when traveling in South Corvallis. Opportunities for community members to be involved in this process will be available as the project moves forward.
