EUGENE — Construction continues with lane closures on Interstate 105 and night work on Beltline Highway.
I-105
The last portion of the I-105 Bridge Preservation Project begins Monday night, Feb. 10. Single lane restrictions begins Monday night. There will be lane changes over the Willamette River all week as the eastbound lanes are prepared for two-way travel. By Friday, both directions of traffic crossing the river will be in the eastbound travel lanes. The westbound travel lanes will close and be under construction until June.
Travelers should expect delays around the work zone. Share the road by doing a zipper merge. A zipper merge is when both lanes are used all the way up to the merge point and then travelers take turns moving forward. Lines are shorter and traffic moves smoothly.
In March, the southbound Delta Highway on-ramp to westbound I-105 will close completely for 8 weeks of construction. Travelers are encouraged to start planning now to take alternate routes, use different travel modes, and adjust travel times. ODOT is working with LTD’s Point2point to help commuters decide which transportation options will get them most effectively through the work zone.
The Interstate 105 (Washington/Jefferson Street Bridge) Bridge Preservation Project is bringing bridges and ramps between Delta Highway and downtown Eugene up to current standards. The bridges were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s and need repair and upgrades. Improvements include new guardrails, deck paving, seismic retrofits, joint replacements, and other repairs. Construction began on the $18 million project in fall 2018 and will be completed in early 2021.
Beltline/Delta Interchange Project
Travelers should expect lane closures on OR 569 Beltline Highway at Delta Highway Sunday night through Friday morning from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. as foundation work continues for a new overpass that is part of the Beltline/Delta Interchange Project.
On Delta Highway, expect lane closures at Beltline Highway from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Delta Highway will be restriped and lanes shifted as ramps around the interchange are reconfigured.
Travelers should stay alert, slow down, and drive cautiously through the construction zone. Police are enforcing speed limits and safety.
The Beltline/Delta Interchange Project will improve safety at the interchange by:
- Realigning the Goodpasture Island Road on-ramp to northbound Delta Highway.
- Installing a new bridge over Beltline Highway for the new northbound Delta Highway to westbound Beltline Highway on-ramp.
- Removing the southeast loop ramp from eastbound Beltline Highway to northbound Delta Highway.
- Installing an intersection on Delta Highway for the eastbound Beltline Highway off-ramp.
The $20 million project began construction in January.
