New Year's Resolutions
It's the time of year to make resolutions, resolving to change bad habits or start a new healthy activity. Resolutions can be powerful if we are serious about them. Consider adopting one of these resolutions that can actually save lives and prevent tragedies if we put them into practice every day:
I resolve to not drive when I’ve been drinking.
I resolve to stay sober if I’m the designated driver.
I resolve to obey the speed limit.
I resolve to not text or talk on my cell phone while driving.
I resolve to wear my seat belt during every trip, every time.
I resolve to drive alert – pay attention to the complex task of driving – and avoid driving while drowsy.

Heavy Machinery
There’s more than one way to be under the influence. Whether it’s over-the-counter medication or prescription drugs, when the warning label says, “do not operate heavy machinery”, that also includes your car. Use of over-the-counter and prescription drugs can alter judgment, reaction time, and coordination, impairing operator's driving skills, and making motorists more susceptible to crashes and related injuries.
The common misconception is that impairment only occurs with alcohol, illegal drug use, or abuse of prescriptions. The reality is that common over-the-counter drugs, such as cold, flu, sleep and allergy medicines, and drugs like antidepressants, opioids, and sleep aids prescribed by a doctor, can affect your ability to drive safely. Think twice before getting behind the wheel while using over-the-counter and prescription medications.
