The change starts next week as paving is almost 50 percent complete
SALEM— Paving of Interstate 5 between Woodburn and Salem shifts from northbound to southbound lanes during the week of June 23 with work beginning at the Woodburn Interchange and moving south toward Salem.
There will be lane closures starting as early at 7 p.m. and continuing as late as 9 a.m., Sunday night to Friday morning. Travelers can expect delays up to 30 minutes.
No paving around July 4th holiday
There will be no construction on I-5 from July 3-6, Wednesday to Sunday evening. Paving will resume at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.
Paving the 12 mile section of I-5 is now almost 50 percent complete. In addition to paving, the end panel replacement work on four southbound bridges on I-5 in Salem will continue.
The project also includes the installation of rumble strips and permanent striping once paving is finished. The project is scheduled for completion by October.
This stretch of I-5 was last paved 11 years ago and is deteriorating. Paving now creates a smoother, quieter drive for thousands of daily travelers and avoids the greater expense caused by waiting until the highway deteriorates further.

Know before you go
- Completing a project of this size in one summer requires more work hours per day and depends on good weather. Paving requires dry and warm conditions. The work is weather dependent so there may be some nights when construction isn’t happening.
- Stay informed and know before you go by checking the latest road and travel conditions and traffic alerts at www.tripcheck.com or call 5-1-1.
- Stay alert and watch for construction signs and construction workers in the work zone.
Access for pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be available and identified through or around the work zones.
