Smoother, safer ride coming to U.S. 101 travelers south of Seaside
Needed paving and rumble strips to improve highway
SEASIDE— Travelers that use U.S. 101 south of Seaside are getting a smoother and safer ride. New pavement and centerline rumble strips are coming for a section of U.S. 101 south of Seaside beginning on June 16.
The new pavement and centerline rumble strips are part of a larger project on U.S. 101 between Dooley Bridge (Seaside) to the junction of U.S. 26 and U.S. 101. The project started in May with deep repairs of the asphalt and concrete along U.S. 101 that have been in poor condition.
The paving will start on Sunday evening, June 16, weather depending. The centerline rumble strips will be installed on the northern section of the paving project from Dooley Bridge to Beerman Creek Road once the paving has been completed. The project also includes new permanent striping.
Rumble strips are a cost effective and proven safety tool that reduces lane departure crashes which can result in fatal and serious head on and run off type crashes.
Both paving and installation of rumble strips will happen at night from Sunday at 7 p.m. to Friday at 7 a.m. with lane closures and two-way traffic being controlled by flaggers and pilot car. Travelers can expect up to 20 minute delays.
Access for pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be available and identified through or around the work zones.
