New Technical Resource Center (TRC)
Thanks to the passage of House Bill 2017 and the creation of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund, ODOT’s transit programs are expanding! We are excited to introduce the ODOT Rail and Public Transit Division’s new Technical Resource Center (TRC) website! We have repurposed the Research and Technology Tools page to make it more relevant. The purpose of the TRC is to provide a collection of resources focused on improving training and transportation planning, providing easy access to information technology, and sharing ideas that will ultimately improve rider experience.
The TRC’s Transit Planning section provides a variety of guidance documents and resources to support Oregon transit agencies as they create and implement plans to meet local needs consistent with the Oregon Public Transportation Plan (OPTP). Elements of this section are categorized as:
- Accessibility
- Demographics
- Electronic Fare Systems
- Planning
- Public Engagement
- Safety
To help providers navigate the multitude of choices online, the Transit Technology section includes a variety of links to transit-related vendor websites. The suggested sites are aimed at improving trip planning, passenger communications, network planning, electronic ticketing, fare collection systems, and more. Categories and goals in this section are:
- Safety – Promotes the safety and security of travelers and vehicles
- Integration - Facilitates identification of congestion and management of traffic
- Accessibility - Improves independent mobility of travelers
- Environmental - Reduces fuel consumption and emissions and promotes sustainable transportation
- Travel Planning - Expands, enhances, and coordinates public transportation
- Operations - Supports office operations, enhances maintenance, and extends the longevity of assets
We are also researching setting up a communication platform to provide agencies the ability to connect with one another online. This would be a place for providers to share ideas, recommendations, resources, and productivity tips.
The TRC is integral to implementing the OPTP and its Key Initiatives. Following the release of the OPTP Practitioner’s Guide in summer of 2019, a key initiative category will be added to the site to help connect key initiatives to corresponding technology. The OPTP Practitioner’s Guide will explain how to use and implement the policies and strategies of the OPTP and call attention to key parts of interest to the audiences.
Please take some time to explore the website and let us know your thoughts. Your feedback will help us to make this resource even better.
