March 2019 Engineering Careers Spotlight: Region 2 Traffic Unit
Region 2 serves Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, Yamhill, Polk, Marion, Lincoln, Benton, Linn, Lane and western Washington Counties.
Our Traffic Unit is part of the Region 2 Technical Center. The Region 2 Technical Center is responsible for delivering an annual in-house construction volume of approximately $100 million. The Traffic Unit’s core functions are to deliver the region’s multi-million dollar transportation program and provide support for highway operations and safety. We are also responsible for providing technical analysis, operational assistance and coordination, and data support services to planning, project development, construction, and operational and maintenance activities.

Highlights of the HB 2017 transportation investments include:

Not all roundabouts are round: some are oval and others are shaped like dumbbells!
Roundabouts can result in 90 percent fewer fatal crashes compared to signalized intersections!
Out of the five roundabouts on state highways in Oregon, three are in Region 2 - one is in Astoria and two are in Forest Grove!
