Lane County state highway construction update

 The Oregon Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe and efficient transportation system. ODOT invests in Oregon’s future through roadway improvement projects. The following are located in ODOT Region 2, Area/District 5, Lane County.

I-105 Bridge Preservation Project (Eugene)https://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/project-details.aspx?project=18577

Lane closures are in effect 24 hours a day in the project area. Bridge joints are being replaced inside the existing lane closures. The bridge removal stage is complete.

The 6th Avenue onramp closure has been postponed. Work on the project continues. The 6th and 7th Avenue on and off ramps will each be closed separately between May and October.

In a two year project, I-105 bridges and ramps between the Delta Highway interchange and downtown Eugene are being repaired, repaved, and receiving seismic upgrades.

U.S. 101: Siuslaw River Bridge (Florence) (MP 190.8 -191.2) http://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/project-details.aspx?project=17526

The Siuslaw River Bridge is located at the south end of Florence on U.S. 101. Repairs are being made to the bridge and its protective coating, seismic upgrades are being added, the railing upgraded, and pedestrian access improved.

The project is to be completed by the end of May 2019.

OR126/US 101: Florence Streetscape and Paving Project (Florence)https://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/project-details.aspx?project=19496

This project is a partnership between the City of Florence and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to improve the streetscape scenery on U.S.101and OR 126, creating a more scenic look that better represents the community and welcomes tourists to the area. The project will update ADA facilities along US101 and improve the overall safety of pedestrian, bicyclist, and motorist who travel through the area.

  • The project includes OR 126 and U.S. 101
    • U.S.101 –south from the US101/OR126 Junction to the Siuslaw River Bridge
    • OR 126 –east from the US101/OR126 Junction to Spruce Street
  • Numerous new features such as ADA ramps, colored concrete plazas, art plinths, street lighting, underground overhead utilities, bike lanes, parking spaces along U.S. 101, and landscaping and irrigation improvements.
  • U.S. 101 will be paved from the U.S.101/OR 126 Junction south to the Siuslaw River Bridge.

Crews are forming and pouring concrete curbs, installing utility conduits, installing stormwater inlets and manholes along southbound U.S. 101. Traffic should expect single lane closures on southbound U.S. 101 until Memorial Day Weekend. Single lane closures will then switch to U.S. 101 northbound after that point. Side streets will be closed periodically as work progresses along US 101, depending on the contractor’s schedule. The project is to be completed by the end of October 2019.

US 101: Neahkahnie Mountain (Chasm) to Cape Creek Bridge http://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/project-details.aspx?project=17526

This project includes work on three bridges along U.S. 101:

  • Neahkahnie Mtn (Chasm) (North of Manzanita): This project includes a rockfall fence to prevent rocks and debris from falling onto the highway and bridge repair work.
  • Cape Perpetua Half Viaduct (South of Yachats): This project installs a new cathodic protection system, including installing a wind turbine generator under the bridge to power the system.
  • Cape Creek Bridge (North of Florence): This includes installing a new cathodic protection system and bridge repairs.
    • At Cape Creek bridge, crews are working on identifying repair areas, surface prepping, and completing concrete repairs. Single lane closures.
    • At Cape Perpetua Half-Viaduct bridge, crews are working on concrete repairs under the bridge. Single lane closures when crews are working.
    • At Neahkahnie Mountain (Chasm) bridge crews are working on concrete repairs under the bridge and cleaning up the site. All work is scheduled to be complete by early April 2019.

The project is to be completed by the end of December 2020.

OR126: Cornerstone Dr. to Terry St. Paving Project

Crews are repairing and repaving the roadway, adding two bus pullouts and a westbound right turn lane at Ellmaker Road, widening the north shoulder between Shady Rest Dr. and Lake Side Dr, replacing bridge rail at MP 51.7, installing new guardrail, and installing centerline and edge line rumble strips.

All paving work between Cornerstone Drive and Greenhill Road is now complete. Beginning in mid-April work will begin on constructing new bus pullouts near Ellmaker Road and replacing bridge rail on a small bridge to the West of Fisher Road. For the bridge work expect at least two weeks of 24 hour weekday lane closures.. This project is scheduled to be complete by September 16, 2019.

OR126: Walker Creek – Chickahominy Creek https://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/project-details.aspx?project=19661 This project is installing a westbound passing lane from mp 32.36 to mp 31.56, just west of Walton. The road will be widened on both sides to make room for the additional lane. The project will also include new pavement, signs, striping, guardrail, and water quality features.

Tree falling and clearing is complete. Crews are now building up the road base on both sides of the road and extending existing culverts. Expect a single lane closure, with flaggers and a pilot car directing traffic through the work zone. Work is scheduled 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday. Expect delays up to 20 minutes.

OR 58 and OR 126E Hazard Tree Removal
Storm cleanup of hazard trees will be occurring along OR 58 between mp 7 and 56 and OR 126E between mp 9 – 15 through the spring. Expect up to 20 minute delays.
