Eugene — Interstate 105 construction lane closures begin Monday, October 29 and are expected to cause major delays in the area. Travelers should plan to take alternate routes, go at different times, or take other ways of getting to destinations during the two year project to upgrade bridges.

Work is underway on the I-105 (Washington/Jefferson Street Bridge) bridge repair project, bringing four I-105 bridges and ramps between Delta Highway and downtown Eugene up to current standards. Lane closures and detours will be limited as much as possible, but are necessary. Travelers should check TripCheck.com for current closures and traffic flow when planning their routes.

Currently crews are working below the road, filling in the space under a bridge that was built as an overpass. The road planned to go under I-105 was never built and the overpass never used. The bridge structure needs maintenance so it is being removed and the area filled in. 24 hour lane closures are needed to build the section into regular, paved road.

The next step will be working on rebuilding and paving the roadway above. Both directions of traffic will be moved to the westbound lanes on October 29, separated by concrete barrier. This will last for six to eight weeks. Then traffic will move to the eastbound lanes. When traffic moves to the eastbound lanes, the ramp from southbound Delta Highway to westbound I-105 will be closed for about six weeks, until that portion of roadway is completed.

The I-105 bridges were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s and need repair and upgrades. Work includes upgraded guardrails, deck paving, seismic retrofits, joint replacements, and other repairs and will occur day and night.
