Expect heavy traffic this Saturday
UO and OSU football at home

EUGENE/CORVALLIS — With home games scheduled for University of Oregon (UO) and Oregon State University (OSU), the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) urges football fans and other game day travelers to plan for safe travel to Autzen Stadium and Reser Stadium on Saturday.

OSU’s home game at Reser Stadium starts at 1 p.m. and U of O’s home game starts at 5 p.m. This all but guarantees that traffic will be heavy on Interstate 5 and OR 99W for much of the day as fans go to and from the games.

Each community will offer traffic control changes in an effort to increase safety and efficiency for the travelling football fans.

Game day changes in Eugene/Springfield area include:

  • The Pioneer Parkway exit ramp from eastbound Highway 126 (Eugene-Springfield Hwy.) will be closed for approximately 90 minutes after Oregon games. Travelers heading eastbound on Highway 126 are encouraged to take the Mohawk Boulevard exit and use Q Street to access north Springfield area.

For the Corvallis area:

  • Signal timing adjustment on Highway 34 to allow more traffic to pass through intersections.
  • After an OSU game, travelers at the South Bypass are restricted from turning west into town but will enjoy a dedicated right turn lane to travel east onto Highway 34.
  • Travelers on the Van Buren Bridge traveling east on Highway 34 do not have to stop at the intersection.

Fans may want to consider alternative transportation such as the Amtrak Cascades passenger train to and from Eugene during home football game weekends this fall. Train – or POINT bus – riders can avoid traffic and parking hassles, and once in town, can ride the Lane Transit District Autzen Express bus.

Remember:

  • Put your traveling game plan together now
  • On game day: leave early, be patient and alert so you can react to sudden stops in traffic, quick lane changes by other vehicles, and leave plenty of distance between you and others on the road
  • Keep current on road and travel conditions by visiting TripCheck.com, calling 5-1-1, and listening for radio traffic-related news and updates
  • Drivers: avoid distractions and leave talking or texting on mobile devices in the hands of your passengers
  • Buckle up every trip, every time
  • Have a sober, rested driver behind the wheel of your vehicle before and after the gameState, county and city police along with ODOT encourage reporting any possible intoxicated or dangerous drivers by calling 9-1-1.
