Starting tomorrow, #BanfieldBackup is upon us again as we
continue work to maintain the busiest interchange in the state. Modeling shows
traffic from the closure may back up as far east as Troutdale during the week
if drivers do not avoid the area. See the detailed description of the upcoming ramp closure below for more information.
Upcoming
closures
10 p.m. Friday, Aug.
17 to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27: I-84 westbound
to I-5 southbound will close. This closure involves the following traffic
impacts:
- The ramp from I-84 westbound to I-5 southbound will be closed.
-
All on-ramps onto I-84 westbound will be closed between I-205 and
I-5. This includes the following on-ramps:
- NE Halsey St.
- NE Glisan St.
- NE Sandy Blvd.
- NE 33rd Ave.
- All off-ramps exiting I-84 westbound will be open.
-
Starting at the Lloyd exit, only one lane of I-84 westbound will
remain open. That lane will connect to I-5 northbound.
- There are no planned closures of I-205 or I-405 in the Portland
area during this closure.
Full nighttime closures
are planned on I-84 between NE 122nd Ave. and NE 181st
Ave. in both directions for ODOT’s interstate sign replacement
project. Part of #BigFixPDX, these closures involve the following traffic impacts:
-
Westbound I-84 will be closed Aug. 22 to Aug. 30 between NE 122nd Ave and NE 181st Ave. at night during the week
from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and on the weekend from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.
-
Eastbound I-84 will be closed Aug. 28 and Aug. 29 between NE 181st Ave. and NE 122nd Ave. at night from 10 p.m. to
5 a.m.
- Visit the project website for
detour route information.
Other traffic impacts for
the paving project on I-5 between the Interstate Bridge and I-84 include
nightly lane closures in both directions from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Our
trip planning tips
We’ve heard from many of you and want to share our top trip
planning tips for the last #BanfieldBackup and #BigFixPDX closures:
- Avoid driving in the area if possible. Consider
taking your trip with TriMet, C-TRAN or your
local public transit provider.
- Consider telecommuting or working from an
alternate location if you’re able. If you can, consider making your trip by bike
or foot.
- Closures on I-5 and the I-5 at I-84 interchange
could affect your trip even if you’re not travelling on I-84 through the
Portland metro area. Detour routes and local streets may be congested as
travelers avoid construction areas. Expect and plan for delays, especially for
time-sensitive trips.
- Try combining trips whenever possible to
minimize your time on the road.
- Have an alternative route in mind before you
leave as a backup plan.
We know not everyone can avoid driving. If you
must use a car:
- Visit TripCheck.com before you go for real time
traffic information.
- Fuel your vehicle and make sure you and your
passengers have water to stay hydrated.
- Be patient and drive safely. We’re all in this
together!
