New Amtrak Cascades train and Cascades POINT bus schedules go into effect Dec. 18

SALEM – Travelers in the Willamette Valley will have some more convenient options on several train and bus routes beginning Mon., Dec. 18. The Amtrak Cascades passenger train going southbound from Portland will leave at 9:45 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. Mon. – Fri. and 12:30 p.m. instead of 9:35 a.m. on weekends and holidays; the train going northbound from Eugene will leave at 4:30 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. The Cascades POINT bus route will also begin a new schedule that complements train travel, increases trips to Woodburn and reduces travel time between Portland and Eugene (and points in between).

The schedules are being adjusted in part because Washington is adding four new daily Amtrak Cascades routes between Portland and Seattle beginning Dec. 18. By adjusting schedules, Oregon’s trains and buses will offer smoother connections and the ability to travel more conveniently in the entire corridor.

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and review the new schedule available on the POINT bus website and the Amtrak Cascades website.

“With this new schedule, the Cascades POINT bus is maintaining all vital connections to the Amtrak Cascades service at Union Station in Portland,” said Joel Manning, POINT Project manager. “It will also make for a more efficient, sustainable and streamlined service for the roughly 7,000 monthly Cascades POINT passengers.”

The new Cascades POINT bus schedule also restores the normal Portland-Eugene I-5 service without the temporary detour to Oregon City. Amtrak is the exclusive ticket seller for the Cascades POINT route and can help passengers with any questions about purchasing tickets for both the bus and train.
