SALEM – Do you live in the Beaverton area and wish there was a relaxing way to get to the beach? Perhaps you’re on the north coast and you’d like an easier way to access Washington County’s shopping and medical services? ODOT and our partners have great news: the POINT intercity bus service will add the Sunset Transit Center in Beaverton on its Portland-Astoria route beginning Oct. 24. The POINT bus will stop at the Transit Center, 10470 SW Barnes Rd, Beaverton, 97225, four times per day, every day.
Sunset Transit Center is TriMet’s second largest transit center in the Portland Metro area. It has nearly 600 free parking spaces, bicycle parking facilities, is open 365 days a year, and is near services such as Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, DMV, and many stores and restaurants. This is the first time the POINT will serve a TriMet transit center, and it will make it much easier for those on the west-side to access the bus route – they’ll no longer have to travel to Union Station in downtown Portland to catch the POINT. Adding a stop at the transit center also means POINT passengers will have better connections to and from MAX and TriMet buses.
“This strategic partnership between ODOT and TriMet is the first of its kind for either agency,” said Joel Manning, ODOT’s POINT project manager. “We know this is going to open up a lot of options for travelers, both in the metro area as well as on the north coast.”
ODOT is revising the schedule for its Portland-Astoria bus route to accommodate the new stop and to adjust for other updates to the service. For example, increasing congestion on Oregon’s roads has been pushing the schedule back by about 30 minutes, so the timetable will change to reflect a more realistic service
Beginning Oct. 24, the new schedule, ticket prices, and more will be available on the POINT website.
