Riders can make connections at Necanicum Jct. and Elsie
SALEM — Effective Aug. 1, riders will need to catch the NorthWest POINT bus at Necanicum Junction or Elsie instead of Manning. The Manning stop, located at the Dairy Queen on U.S. 26, has had some safety issues as well as very low ridership, so ODOT is eliminating the stop. Dropping the Manning stop will also free up time to provide better service at two other rural stops along this route.
“The good news is Necanicum Junction and Elsie will become regular stops,” said Traveler Information Coordinator Joel Manning of ODOT’s Rail and Public Transit Division. “Before, the buses only stopped there if a passenger had purchased a ticket ahead of time.”
The POINT intercity bus service offers affordable options for making connections throughout Oregon – such as between Portland and the northwest coast, throughout the Rogue Valley, Klamath Falls and the southern coast, among towns in central and eastern Oregon, and up and down the Willamette Valley. The buses are air-conditioned and have free Wi-Fi and power outlets for electronic devices. They also have room for luggage, including bicycles.
The five POINT routes are:
· NorthWest POINT - Portland to Astoria
· Cascades POINT - Portland to Eugene
· SouthWest POINT - Klamath Falls to Medford/Grants Pass/Brookings
· Eastern POINT - Bend to Ontario
· HighDesert POINT - Redmond to Chemult Amtrak Station
