The Kuebler I-5 southbound on ramp to close for two weeks starting May 6

Closure is necessary to prepare interchange for opening of new ramp

SALEM—The contractor working for the Oregon Department of Transportation on the I-5 Kuebler Interchange Project (Exit 252) will close the interchange’s southbound on ramp for two weeks starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 6.

The southbound on ramp will be closed through Sunday, May 22 in order to prepare for the opening of the new on-ramp. The new on ramp meets current standards and contains added capacity.

Motorists can detour around the closure by using the I-5 interchange at Mission Street (OR 22/OR 99E Business/Exit 253) to the north. Travelers should take I-5 north from Kuebler, exit at Mission, then crossover and enter I-5 southbound.

The new on ramp is a major milestone on the $9.6 million project that will relieve congestion and improve safety at the busy interchange, while also supporting economic development opportunities in the South Salem area.

The project will also add a westbound to southbound I-5 loop on ramp and modify the eastbound to southbound I-5 on ramp. The project is on schedule to be completed by this fall.

Most of the funding for the project comes from the Jobs and Transportation Act (JTA), approved by the Oregon Legislature in 2009.
