Construction begins on OR 99W, OR 219, and Springbrook Road for connection to Bypass

 

NEWBERG— ODOT has contracted with K & E Excavating, Inc. of Salem, Oregon to widen Springbrook Road and add new turn lanes that would connect drivers on OR 99W to the Newberg-Dundee Bypass.

 

Newberg area residents and travelers on OR99W, OR 219, and Springbrook Road will begin to see construction this month. Construction began on the new two-lane bypass road in 2013. This is the final connection that would allow the bypass to open in late 2017.

 

Neighbors and businesses interested in this work are encouraged to drop in at an open house on Monday, April 25 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at PCC Newberg, 135 Werth Blvd. Staff will be on hand to provide information about the project, discuss access concerns, schedule, or answer other questions about the project.

 

Neighbors nearest the ongoing bypass work have experienced the disruption caused by major construction. The widening of Springbrook Road and work on OR219 and OR99W will cause disruption to neighbors, as well as be noticeable to those who travel through the area.      

 

The work on Springbrook Road, including at the intersections with OR219 and OR99W, will take about 18 months to complete. Springbrook Road will be widened to include a center lane and multi-use paths. A City of Newberg water pipe is being relocated with a larger pipe while the road is being rebuilt

 

Over the next months, signage will be installed and work will occur nearest the intersections of OR219/Springbrook Road and OR99W/Springbrook Road. The contractor will also begin work on a noise wall on the west side of Springbrook Road, just north and south of 2nd Street. Some work will occur at night to avoid major traffic disruption during the day. Later this year, detours around the construction area will be necessary as the water pipe is installed and Springbrook Road is widened. Drivers are advised to watch for signage updates in the area.

 

The new Newberg-Dundee Bypass project will extend from OR 99W at Springbrook Road in Newberg to OR 99W south of Dundee. The project is on schedule to be completed in late 2017.
