Oregon, Taiwan sign driver license agreement

Drive tests waived when exchanging driver license between Oregon, Taiwan

A representative of Taiwan, Republic of China, and DMV Administrator Tom McClellan signed an agreement Monday, Sept. 28, making it easier to obtain a driver license for residents of Taiwan who live in Oregon and for Oregonians living in Taiwan.
Director General Andy Chin of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle came to Salem on Monday to sign the agreement with McClellan at the Director’s Office of the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The reciprocity agreement allows current holders of passenger-vehicle driving privileges in Oregon to obtain similar driving privileges in Taiwan without taking a driving skills test. Likewise, the agreement allows holders of comparable passenger-vehicle driver licenses issued by Taiwan to obtain an Oregon driver license without a drive test.
All other eligibility requirements and fees in Oregon and Taiwan still will apply. Oregon has similar agreements with other countries, including South Korea and Germany.
DMV will begin accepting reciprocity applicants on Friday, October 2. To apply for an Oregon driver license, Taiwan residents living in Oregon must visit a DMV office. For office hours and locations, visit www.OregonDMV.com.
Whenever people need Oregon DMV services, DMV recommends they first check www.OregonDMV.com. Customers may complete some DMV business online or find out how to prepare and make their DMV visit as efficient as possible. They also can find locations, business hours, and current wait times of DMV offices.
